Personal Care Aides (sometimes called Continuing Care Aides, or CCAs) work as aides and caregivers in long term care facilities, home care, and in primary care facilities.Trained Personal Care Aides provide personal care and assist in the activities of daily living for clients, patients, and residents to encourage their optimal level of functioning.
This is a hybrid program that combines in-person, online, and hands-on clinical learning. Approximately 60% of the program is delivered in person on campus, Monday to Friday. This portion focuses on essential practical skills, lab-based training, and instructor-guided learning that must be completed face to face.
The remaining 40% of the program is delivered online, allowing students to complete theory-based coursework through scheduled virtual instruction and independent study.
In addition to classroom learning, the program includes two required supervised clinical placements that are delivered in partnership with the Saskatoon Health Authority and other health-sector employers, to provide students with hands-on experience on site in real-world care settings. Some practicum placements may be paid, while most are unpaid. Paid opportunities, where available, are determined by employer needs, location, and individual eligibility, and cannot be guaranteed.
