COURSE LIST

Mining Industry Fundamentals

This course offers a foundational overview of the mining industry's full lifecycle, from early-stage exploration through extraction and environmental closure. Students will examine key concepts including mineral project stages, stakeholder roles, resource classification, mining operations, and sustainability practices. Emphasis is placed on understanding how exploration, feasibility studies, and environmental planning interconnect to support responsible and effective mineral development.

Mining Industry Terminology

This course builds foundational fluency in the specialized terminology used across the mining sector, from early-stage geological analysis through mineral processing and technical reporting. Students will learn to identify and describe key geological structures, mineral deposit types, and processing techniques while developing the vocabulary needed to interpret technical news releases and industry communications. Emphasis is placed on accurate usage of mining-specific language and the ability to confidently engage with professional documentation and discourse.

Mining Transportation and Logistics

This course introduces students to the principles and practices of material transportation in mining operations, with a focus on conveyor-based systems used in surface and underground settings. Topics include system selection, component identification, installation and maintenance procedures, and environmental and safety considerations. By combining operational insight with future-focused technologies, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how efficient transportation supports mining productivity and sustainability.

Mining Marketing and Communications

This course explores the evolving role of communication in the mining industry, with a focus on stakeholder engagement, sustainability, and corporate reputation. Students will examine the strategies and tools mining companies use to manage risk, build trust, and communicate transparently with local communities, governments, investors, and the global public. This course ensures that students develop the skills to plan and evaluate communication efforts that support sustainable development and license-to-operate goals.

Contract Law & Administration

This course teaches students the legal standards of domestic and international business practices. Students will gain knowledge of legal technicalities within the supply chain industry to streamline the business process and enhance overall operations. Topics include enforcing and terminating binding contracts, international trade, and corporate law, among others.

Ethical Behaviour and Social Responsibility

In this course students will learn business ethics on an economic, relational, global, and environmental level with the perspective of competitive and innovative business progression. Students will learn how the intersection between ethics and business philosophy can help expand business models in areas such as the technological sector, the social sector, and on a cultural level.

Computerized Bookkeeping – QuickBooks Online

This course transitions students from manual bookkeeping to computerized accounting programs and processes. A practical hands-on-approach will see students setting up and entering income and expense information, clients, suppliers, invoicing, and payment.

Organizational Behaviour

In this course, students gain an important understanding of how human behaviours in the workplace affect the performance of individuals, teams, and various groups. Situational communication, culture, personal differences, workplace politics, and effective outcomes for healthy communication in the workplace are discussed.

Business Essentials

This course focuses on crucial functions that drive results-oriented outcomes in today’s fast-paced workplace environment. Topics include: effective project organization, business networking skills, marketplace business practices, and coordinating appropriate day-to-day workplace procedures.

Effective Business Writing

The course discusses the fundamental details involved in effective communication techniques required in today’s fast-paced work environment. Topics include effective written communication skills, proper communication techniques, specific workplace communication situations, and designing effective business presentations.

Business English & Proofreading

This course will introduce students to the fundamental English Language skills necessary to attain meaningful employment in contemporary business operations. Students will learn about various mistakes in syntax, grammar, and spelling that will help set them apart from other job candidates. They will also receive hands-on training on how to edit business documents using standardized proofreading marks.

Microsoft Outlook

This course prepares students to perform functions necessary in the workplace using Microsoft Outlook. File management, editing, formatting, and printing functions are topics covered to provide students the understanding of common functions in most Windows applications.

Microsoft Word

This course guides students through the Microsoft Windows application Word. Students will learn how to create and manipulate Word documents through a practical, hands-on approach.

Microsoft Excel

This course introduces students to spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel. Relying very heavily on a hands-on practical training approach, students learn by doing through skills-based simulations, training and assessments. The course starts with an overview of spreadsheets and how to use the common features and functions of Microsoft Excel. The course then focuses on the core features of Microsoft Excel where students learn how to enter and format data and use the various functions and formulas to manage and manipulate the data.

Microsoft PowerPoint

This course prepares students to perform PowerPoint functions necessary in the workplace environment. Students learn how to create and manipulate documents to successfully deliver effective presentations.

Communications and Interpersonal Skills

This course prepares students to use proper speaking skills to give effective and professional oral presentations. Students will learn what to do before, during, and after the presentation, and how to design effective visual aids.

Becoming a Master Student

This course helps students make the transition to post-secondary education and teaches them how to make the most of their chosen career education path as they prepare for the workforce. Topics include learning styles, goal setting, note-taking, and testing.

Career Management

In this course, students will work hands on to build on essential skills necessary for finding opportunities in today's job market. Students will develop this essential communication to be successful in the entire job application process. Throughout the course, students will learn skills to plan, write, and complete a resume; to search for employment; and develop their presentation skills to help them achieve gainful employment.
